A Thought from a Pediatrician

Dr. Kennell is a pediatrician who saw the changes in birth outcomes, the difference in how births unfold, how babies respond to a supported birther, and decided not only to endorse doulas at births, but to go on to help build an organization to train people in the art of support. The slogan of the company that he helped found: A Doula for Everyone that Wants One.

Doulas are a wonderful benefit to births, if you have the right doula, and if you want a doula present.

What does the right doula for your birth look like in your mind? Would you entertain the idea of having someone there to support your birth and birth plan, if you knew that you would be more likely to have birth satisfaction and less likely to have unnecessary interventions with a doula present? What stops you from hiring a doula? What is it that makes you think about hiring/not having a doula present?
